msheep,

I fully agree. It is loads of laughs. They don't make 'em like that anymore. Another movie I recommend that is "Real Genius" from 1985, it's like "Animal House" but with a higher IQ, very funny movie.

This movie is timeless! I have seen it probably 20 times (it was my dads favorite movie) and I still laugh out loud every single time I see it. It really has lasting power.

bill,

I know. Being that this was the first one in the series, it can sometimes be a pain in the butt when taking into consideration how much they've updated with the recent Rainbow Six games.

I agree that it borrowed way too often from other horror movies. It's like they wanted to try and jam as much as they could into just one movie.

Salem's Lot is one of my favorite Stephen King novels. It was the first that made vampires seem real in modern times. The '79 mini-series was incredible and if anybody buys it or rents it they have to make sure it is not the condensed version which removed a lot of the original TV mini-series. It followed the story closely.

A few years ago I saw the newest version with Rob Lowe and I highly recommend that version as well. I didn't think it was possible that another movie of Salem's Lot could be better or compare to the original but it was great for many other reasons as well. Far superior then when there was a remake of The Shining. Nothing could compare to Kubrick's masterpiece so I don't know why they bothered.

Cmaher,

Exactly. The third film went through torture, even though it has gained somewhat of a cult status since its release. The director's cut helps a little bit. Then there was Alien Resurrection which, had a lot of potential, but was also screwed up by Fox in the end.
